Located 18 miles west of Milwaukee, the City of Waukesha. It is the largest community in the county and the 7th largest in the state of Wisconsin. As of 2010, Waukesha had a population of 70,718 residents.
Waukesha is rich in history and has been home to many notable people over the years. One of the most notable people from the city was Les Paul. Les Paul created some of the finest guitars of his time that were used by may famous musicians throughout the years and continue to be used to this day. He is also one of only a few artists who have their own stand-alone exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. To honor Paul, local artists have created multiple 10-foot fiberglass guitar sculptures and murals that are all unique in their own regard. Waukesha has also produced many NFL players who have played for teams such as the New England Patriots, Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans, and of course the Green Bay Packers among other teams as well.
If you’re looking for some fun year-round events, Waukesha is the place for you. Every Saturday morning from May to October, check out the Waukesha Farmers Market near the intersection of St Paul Ave and Madison St. The farmers market has over 150 vendors selling everything from produce to arts and crafts and much more! The annual Apple Harvest Festival has been a tradition at the Retzer Nature Center since 1987 and has been a local favorite ever since. The festival celebrates the area’s history of apple production through an apple market, horse-drawn carriage rides, pie baking competitions, and many more activities for the whole family. This December, get into the holiday spirit with the annual Mistletoe Market. This day-long market offers visitors the chance to purchase one-of-a-kind crafts from over 80 local vendors on site. There’s tons on offer from soaps to specialty food and even dog treats. A full list of events can be found on Visit Waukesha’s website here.
